It certainly is not, if one considers this ghazal given here. There was one who even suggested ‘Chupke chupke…’ was a one-time fluke by the Maulana sahab. It is possible he had both and a indefatigible memory to boot and a gift of language to immortalise some of the finest feelings and experiences in words. did the Maulana sahab have a particularly romantic youth or either a fine, vivid imagination and knowledge of courtship and love. ![]() I must myself confess that this is an issue I have also long thought over but have been unable to resolve…. They were somewhat disconcerted to find out that the man behind this incomparable love lyric was a bearded cleric and freedom fighter. They did’nt know (and thankfully, they did not say Ghulam Ali). Sometime back I remember asking someone if they knew who the author of ‘Chupke chupke raat din….’ was. ![]() ![]() However, he does deserve a place in the pantheon of poets of the Lucknow school. Also, his inclusion in this series will serve another purpose, too. I have already written about Maulana Syed Fazl ul Hasan Hasrat Mohani here earlier, showcasing his finest and most famous ghazal. ![]()
